Report in Prothom Alo, Oct 29, 2017 at 18:23 hrs
Obaidul QuaderRuling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia staged the attack in her own area and is laying the blame on the government.

Replying to questions of newsmen at his secretariat office Sunday, Obaidul Quader, who is also the road transport and bridges minister, said, “BNP is fighting among themselves and blaming the government. The attack on Khaleda Zia’s convoy in Feni was pre-planned and staged.”

The BNP chairperson wins a particular seat in Feni every election.

An attack was launched on BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s convoy at Feni on Saturday, on the way to Cox’s Bazar where she was going to see the Rohingyas.

Journalists were injured in the attack and at least 20 vehicles were damaged.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that activists of ruling Bangladesh Awami League, its front organisations Juba League and Chhatra League were behind the attack. Khaleda Zia condemned the incident.

Minister Obaidul Quader said, “The government has no problem with the BNP chairperson going to see the Rohingyas. Why will we obstruct her? Why will we attack the newsmen?”

Obaidul Quader said that since they couldn’t manage to have thousands of people to line the roads along the route, Khaleda Zia orchestrated the attack on her own convoy and then blamed the government.

Khaleda Zia started off from Cox’s Bazar from the Chittagong Circuit House at around noon today, Sunday. On Monday she will inspect the Rohingya camp at Ukhia. http://en.prothom-alo.com/bangladesh/news/164731/Quader-accuses-Khaleda-of-staging-attack-blaming
