PPP, PTl to protest appointment of GB governor: report in Dawn March 4th , 2015

GILGIT: Pakistan People`s Party and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf have decided to launch a protest movement against the appointment of Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Chaudhry Birjis Tahir as the governor of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The two political parties are planning to give a call for a complete shutter down in the region and hold protest rallies on March 6, the day when the federal minister is scheduled to visit to the region after assuming charge of the governor.

PPP has convened an all parties` conference (APC) in Gilgit on March 5 to evolve a joint strategy for the protest, according to a statement issued after a meeting of PPP office-barriers from seven districts of the region here on Tuesday.

Former chief minister and PPP GilgitBaltistan president Syed Mehdi Shah chaired the meeting, while PPP secretary general Aftab Haider, women wing president Sadia Danish, GB council members Wazir Ebadat, Amjad Hussain and PPP presidents of the seven districts were in attendance.

The statement said that that PPP had decided to resist the `illegal acts` of the federal government, and start protest movement across the region. The meeting decided to block entry of Mr Tahir to the region.

Talking to Dawn, PPP member of the GB council Amjad Hussain Advocate said that GB was `under attack` of federal government after PML-N came into power at the centre.

Mr Hussain said that APC was meant to discuss joint efforts to what he said thwart PML-N`s alleged plans to commit pre-poll rigging in the region.

Meanwhile, PTl office-bearer Mirza Hussain said that PTl would expose `PML-N plans to hijack the upcoming GBLA elections`. He said that the party had decided to record strong protest on the occasion of the visit of newly appointed GB governor to the region on March 6.

Mirza Hussain said that PTl would hold GB youth convention in Islamabad on March 7, where party chief Imran Khan and other central leaders would shed light on issues facing the people of GB.http://epaper.dawn.com/DetailImage.php?StoryImage=04_03_2015_007_003
