Political Rift Overshadows Anti-Terror Campaign: Ex-NDS Chiefs : by Sharif Amiry in TOLOnews.com, Oct 14, 2016

Amrullah Saleh, former head of the Afghan intelligence agency – the National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Thursday said the rift in the country’s political front has contrasted the efforts to overcome the ongoing war in Afghanistan.

Saleh made the remarks during the inauguration of a charity organization (Foundation for Funding Heroes) in Kabul, where he said Afghans have been exploited by some self-interested politicians.

“What we have lost is not the absence of harmony among the security forces; the thing we have lost takes root from a lack of harmony and compassion between politicians and fighters,” Saleh added.

The charity is established by former NDS chief Rahmatullah Nabil who stepped down from his post few month ago. The charity is aimed at supporting families of fallen Afghan soldiers.

“Despite government’s negligence, Afghan soldiers continue their efforts, they not only work as a powerful force for Afghanistan, but they are also the backbone of our national unity,” Nabil told the gathering.

At the same event, former National Security Advisor Rangin Dadfar Spanta said: “We have created a deep valley between those who defend the country and those who operate as the slaves of ISI [Pakistan’s intelligence agency].”

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said: “Those groups that are waging the war against security forces [in Afghanistan], their identity is clear to the people; they are slaves and are working under ISI.”

The remarks come a time that the Afghan security forces continue their military campaigns against Taliban outfits and their foreign offshoots in multiple fronts across the nation amid a sharp surge in militants’ attacks.

“There is a political interference within the leadership of the security agencies,” said former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Sher Mohammad Karimi.

Organizers of the event said the charity will continue to work for helping families of fallen soldiers in legal perspectives, employment and seeking education opportunities for their children.http://www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/27785-political-rift-overshadows-anti-terror-campaign-ex-nds-chiefs
