Police rescue 10 abducted passengers in Kunduz, 8 still in Taliban custody By KHAAMA PRESS – Wed Jun 01 2016

The Afghan security forces have rescued at least 10 abducted passengers during an operation in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan.

According to police sources in Kunduz, the passengers were rescued during a night raid in Shina Tapa area on Tuesday night.

The sources further added that three Taliban insurgents who were keeping the hostages were also killed and operations are underway for the release of 8 others still in Taliban custody.

The Taliban insurgents killed at least 17 passengers after abducting nearly 200 in the early hours of Tuesday in this province.

The security officials are saying that the Taliban insurgents kidnapped the passengers from 4 buses, 3 vans and 3 cars and took them with themselves.

However, the majority of the passengers were released after they were interrogated by the Taliban insurgents but at least 17 of them were killed.

Kunduz has been witnessing deteriorating security situation during the past few months as the Taliban insurgents are trying to destabilize the northern provinces.

The Taliban insurgents briefly captured the provincial capital of Kunduz last year but it was retaken by the Afghan security forces.http://www.khaama.com/police-rescue-10-abducted-passengers-in-kunduz-8-still-in-taliban-custody-01128
