DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The Dera police foiled terror bids by recovering three rockets, as many rocket launchers, five repeaters and 10 magazines in two different actions here on Tuesday.
A police spokesman said the Parova police thwarted an attempt to smuggle arms from Dera Ismail Khan to Karachi. He said a police team led by Parova circle DSP Malik Abid Iqbal and SHO Gulsher Khan took action on a tip-off.
He said they stopped a bus at a road blockage created on the Dera-Taunsa Road for checking. He said during checking of the bus, which was heading towards Karachi from Dera, the police found five repeaters and 10 magazines from the secret compartments of the bus.
The police arrested the bus driver, Kifayatullah, a resident of Taunsa, Punjab, and registered a case against him.
Meanwhile, a team of Shaheed Nawab police station led by SHO Nawab Aslam Khan recovered three rockets and as many rocket launchers during an action in Ghar-Pahar area.
Separately, the police on Tuesday claimed to have recovered all the official weapons and ammunition, which were looted by terrorists during an attack on the Wana police station in South Waziristan.
An official said the police raided the house of a terrorist, namely Bin Yameen, in Azam Warsak village on a tip-off, and recovered all the official weapons, ammunition and goods, which were looted during the attack on Wana police station in December 12, 2022.
The recovery included one SMG, two magazines, a bulletproof jacket, two wireless sets, two mobiles, three belts, three RPGs with boosters, 11 hand grenades, five kilograms of explosive material, 1,126 cartridges of SMG, a gas gun, a torch, two bags and a helmet.
It may be noted that around 50 heavily-armed terrorists had attacked the Wana police station. All the police personnel at the police station had surrendered to the militants.
A policeman, namely Mohammad Ilyas, who had got injured in the attack, later succumbed to injuries.
