Police lie in wait to arrest accused AJK ministers: By Munawer Azeem in The Dawn

ISLAMABAD, Feb 9: City police mounted intelligence and vigilance around the Kashmir House to arrest the people, including two ministers of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, nominated in a murder case, sources told Dawn.

According to the sources, a team of police officials had been deployed around the house and checkposts also established to arrest the accused the moment they would come out from the building. However, chance of their presence there is meagre, the sources added.

Minister for Physical Planning and Housing Murtaza Gilani, Minister for Local Government Raja Naseer Khan, former minister Raja Yasin, Muslim Conference member Raja Imtiyaz, newly elected member Legislative Assembly Ahmad Raza Qadri, Raja Saqib Majeed and Sardar Ibrar were nominated by Chaudhry Yasin, senior vice-president of PPP AJK, for allegedly killing his cousin Capt (retired) Tariq Mehmood on Sunday during counting of votes in the by-election for AJK assembly seat.

The police raided the Kashmir House Monday night to arrest the accused but estate officer of AJK did not allow them to enter the building.

The police also conducted raids on the offices of Muslim Conference and the houses of its leaders and workers to nab the accused.

They had left for AJK Sunday evening, the sources said, adding that a police team would be sent to AJK to arrest the accused. However, permission of AJK Legislative Assembly’s speaker was necessary to arrest and interrogate the accused.

The sources said a letter had been sent to the AJK assembly’s speaker and Prime Minister Secretariat to seek permission for arresting the ministers. Permission of AJK government has also been sought to arrest other accused, they said.

Meanwhile, the investigators collected three empty shells along with a round of 30-bore pistol from the crime scene, the sources said. A footage of the incident showed that the victim received a bullet in his forehead, the sources said, adding that face of a ‘shooter’ was not clear in the footage and efforts were in progress to get it right.

However, it is suspected that the victim was hit by the bullet accidentally, the sources said, adding that the affiliation of the shooter was yet to be ascertained.http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/the-newspaper/national/police-lie-in-wait-to-arrest-accused-ajk-ministers-020
