Asif Nazar Butt aka DJ Butt has been arrested and bailed. The DJ, who became famous for providing his sound system at Prime Minister Imran Khan rallies, found that the police had got him for illegal possession of arms. I wonder if there is some higher significance to all this, because the DJ was supplying his sound system for some Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rallies. Shame on him for helping looters and plunderers, especially after he had once seen the light.
But I am not sure if the police officials are to blame. If they have been inclined to lodge a false case, surely it would be one of buffalo theft? Something that would lower the standing of the DJ before the whole village.
Even in Model Town, where the arrest took place, I would suspect that having an illegal weapon would probably fit in with the raffish and devil-may-care persona that any good DJ would have. A good DJ should also be high, but I am sure the DJ would never admit that particular infraction of the law.
Of course, the PM had no real knowledge of any of this. He was too busy inaugurating the Anti-Narcotics Force headquarters building, even though the ANF had failed to deliver him PML-N’s Rana Sanaullah. Imran did not reveal his true feelings, and promised an anti-narcotics campaign. That might seem to be going a little bit too far, but we should not forget that one of the many differences between us and the West is that while we have heroin and charas addicts, they also have cocaine addicts. Now, as the level of development in the West, shows cannabis and heroin are essentially lower-class drugs, and cocaine is both cool and upper-class.
While we have got to have one syllabus for all the schools, we need something to separate the lower classes from the upper ones. Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid is credited with the phrase ‘burger family’ to describe the phenomenon. Perhaps the man he is succeeding, Brigadier (r) Ejaz Shah, will come up with the phrase ‘cocaine family’ at his new Ministry of Narcotics Control.
One of the reasons for replacing a former Intelligence Bureau DG is said to be that he is not as sharp as he used to be. Some would say that Imran thus found him ideal to head the government’s effort to control drugs. I think that is not fair. Instead of looking at others, Imran needs someone who can look long and hard at Sanaullah and find drugs on him.
Actually, that was the least of Imran’s worries. The real question was how to mark December 9, which should be declared as PTI Day. Look, not only is it Anti-Corruption Day, but also National Voters’ Day, both marking causes dear to the heart of all PTI true believers.
They combine how the PTI believes that the voting system allows the making of laws, which allow rulers to rip off the public. Only if the public is allowed to elect its true representatives (someone who has built a cancer hospital), can the cycle be broken? Well, I suppose that the country has got it better than India. Here, we are only dealing with an attempt to have the government changed. In India, you have farmers protesting, because of new laws abolishing minimum support prices.
I hope the implementation of rule of law, without the interference of any selectors, does not lead to similar results over here. Well, we have had a rally over here so that we could get to that desired goal. The one fly in the ointment is the demand for resignations. Being an opposition MPA beats being an ex-MPA.
