Pakistan’s caretaker foreign minister, Jalil Abbas Jilani, highlighted on Tuesday that although the war in Afghanistan has concluded and security has improved, there remains inadequate progress in safeguarding women’s and girls’ rights and addressing the threat from terrorist groups.
At the 27th ECO Council of Ministers meeting in Azerbaijan, Jilani emphasized the importance of constructive engagement with the leaders of the current administration as the key to advancing progress in Afghanistan.
Jilani stressed that as friends and neighbours of Afghanistan and as members of the ECO, there is a crucial role to play in advancing these objectives, as reported by Dawn News.
Jilani also emphasized the importance of the Taliban administration harnessing connectivity to attain economic rejuvenation and growth within the country. He underscored that such economic development is pivotal in ensuring lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in Afghanistan.
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey to foster economic, technical, and cultural cooperation among its member states.
Notably, it is the successor to the Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD) organization, reflecting the region’s commitment to regional collaboration and development.
