The Pakistani security forces killed eight militants, including their commander, in a special operation on Wednesday near Afghanistan border, the military’s media wing said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the statement said that one Pakistani soldier dead and four others were wounded during the shootout.
The operation occurred in the Shin Warsak area of South Waziristan, a northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province district.
The military has not said anything about the identity of dead militants. However, the area is reportedly used by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as Taliban Pakistan. It is actively involved in attacks on the security forces of Pakistan and ordinary citizens.
The group has intensified their attack on Pakistani officials, citizens and foreigners in the country since the unilateral end of the ceasefire with the army in November last year.
Earlier, Pakistani officials accused the Taliban government of supporting the group and not conducting operations against the TTP hideouts in the country.
However, the Afghan authorities denied the accusations and said they would not allow any group to operate from Afghanistan against Pakistan or other neighbouring countries.
