ISLAMABAD: British Army Chief of General Staff (CGS) Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter on Wednesday lauded the Pakistan Army’s war against terrorism. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Carter called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif at the General Headquarters on Wednesday. The visiting dignitary acknowledged the sacrifices and achievements of the Pakistan Army in bringing peace and stability to the region.

Security sources told Daily Times that both the military leaders also discussed the latest security situation in Afghanistan. The British Army chief praised the new system of border management on the Pak-Afghan border and said that terrorists’ movement could be checked more effectively due to this mechanism.

During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to enhance defence and military ties between Pakistan and Britain, saying that strong strategic defence and military relations were imperative for both the countries.

Separately, General Carter visited Miranshah, North Waziristan Agency.

The formation commander briefed the UK Army chief about the agency, return of temporarily displaced persons and developmental projects undertaken by the Pakistan Army. Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Hidayatur Rehman was also present during the briefing.

“No doubt Pakistan Army’s performance and successes are commendable in Miranshah, Waziristan. I have worked in Afghanistan and I know the task very well. All credit goes to Pakistan Army which cleared the area from terrorists,” The British CGS told media during the visit.
