Pakistan is subtly urging the Afghan Taliban leadership to counter the threat posed by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has intensified its strikes in the country in the recent past.
However, the efforts by Islamabad have yet to give any meaningful result, and the interim government in Kabul is still sticking to its earlier position that the only way to resolve the TTP issue is by dialogue, sources said, report the Express Tribute.
After the disruption of the peace talks process between TTP and the Pakistani government, the Taliban Pakistan is ramping up their attacks in recent months despite the announcement of a ceasefire. The group continued to target security officials, foreign citizens and other government officials across Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtun Khaw and Baluchistan provinces.
According to sources, the National Security Council-Pakistan informed the Afghan government that to fulfil its obligations under the Doha Agreement, including bilateral meetings, Kabul would have to neutralize the TTP threat.
Pakistan persuaded the Afghan Taliban behind closed doors, hoping to prevent any deterioration in ties.
However, the interim government in Afghanistan asked Pakistan to pursue talks with TTP. Hence, according to Kabul, Pakistan can best deal with the issue politically.
