Pakistan asks US envoy to initiate probe -Security cordon breach by Tahir Niaz in The Nation, November 17th, 2016

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has expressed concern over the violation of security cordon by the US embassy officials near a local five-star hotel.

Pakistani authorities have asked the US Ambassador in Islamabad to initiate proceedings against the officials involved in the incident.

According to a letter written by the Ministry of Interior to the high-ups of the US Embassy in Islamabad, on October 18, 2016, at around 9pm, five US embassy vehicles violated a security cordon near a five-star hotel.

The embassy officials also exchanged harsh words with the traffic police officials present on the occasion before leaving the spot, sources told The Nation.

According to police, “The violation of the cordon could have escalated into something more serious. This is a serious violation of the security protocols.”

The ministry of interior has decided to bring the incident to the notice of the US ambassador, as the responsible staff of the embassy involved in this incident needed to be proceeded against.

According to the letter addressed to Jonathana Pratt, Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy Islamabad, the ministry has reiterated that repetition of such an incident would attract use of force, if necessary as sanctioned by the law, in order to stop violations of traffic rules by the personnel of the embassy in future.
