Rapid Action Battalion arrested a convicted member of banned militant outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir from Dhaka’s Jatrabari area yesterday.
The arrestee, Tauhidur Rahman Tauhid, 32, was sentenced to two years’ rigorous imprisonment by an Anti-Terrorism Tribunal in a case filed with Hazaribagh Police Station.
He is an active member of the “Dawah” and finance department of the militant outfit, said Md Fazlul Haque, media officer of Rab-2.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-2 conducted the drive and arrested Tauhid, the Rab official said, adding that he was absconding for the last 11 years.
According to the Rab official, Tauhid was actively involved with anti-state activities including encouraging madrasa and school students to engage in militancy.
Police will continue its drive to arrest his associates, said the Rab officer.
