“The current government is in a good state. There is no possibility of snap polls. The general elections must be held under prime minister Sheikh Hasina as per the constitution,” said Ershad, also the special emissary to prime minister Hasina.
Former military ruler Ershad was talking to newsmen at a hotel in Kuakata of Patuakhali. Ershad was on a personal visit to the tourist spot of Kuakata.
The hotel – Kuakata Grand Hotel – is owned by his party’s secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader.
Jatiya Party chairman said the Rangpur civic polls which his party has won by a landslide have created a “positive example”.
“And that’s why, we’re making preparations to contest the next general elections for all of 300 constituencies.”
Ershad said his party, an ally of ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and the official opposition in parliament, is planning to contest the next polls without forming alliance with any political party.http://en.prothom-alo.com/bangladesh/news/168509/Next-elections-must-be-under-Hasina-Ershad
