Taliban’s acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttagi, has officially invited Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, to Kabul. This invitation, confirmed by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, aims to facilitate discussions on critical bilateral matters.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that in a phone call with Muttagi, Abdullahiyan highlighted the recent release of an Iranian photojournalist and urged the resolution of previously raised issues.
During the phone conversation on Saturday, Mr. Muttagi conveyed that ongoing efforts are being made to address specific issues between the two parties.
Following the Taliban’s resurgence to power in Afghanistan, border conflicts have emerged. Iranian authorities have consistently accused the Taliban of obstructing water flow from the Helmand River into Iran. This situation has led to several instances where Iranian authorities issued threats in response to these actions by the Taliban.
According to the Fars news agency, in a recent telephone conversation, Amir Abdollahian reiterated his emphasis on the matter of Iran’s water right from the Helmand River.
Addressing the visit of an Iranian technical delegation to the Kajaki Dam, the Iranian Foreign Minister highlighted that the visit was by the 1973 agreement. He further said that Iran is currently awaiting the technical report from this team.
He reiterated their commitment to pursuing the safeguarding of water rights from the Helmand River and expressed their intention to continue with the follow-up process.
However, the Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan said that the technical team had visited the Kajaki dam and confirmed the severe drought in the country, including the Helmand River.https://www.khaama.com/muttaqi-invites-iranian-fm-for-kabul-visit/
