On Monday, a Taliban delegation, led by their Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, began their journey to Russia to participate in the Moscow Format meeting.
The Moscow Format meeting is scheduled for later this week in the Russian city of Kazan.
This diplomatic gathering aims to convene Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries, which include Iran, China, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia, alongside representatives from several other countries.
The meeting holds significance as it provides a platform for regional and international
stakeholders to discuss Afghanistan’s future, stability, and regional cooperation in the wake of recent developments.
On Sunday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov disclosed that the forthcoming Moscow Format meeting will have a central focus on deliberations concerning strategies to tackle the various challenges currently facing Afghanistan.
The meeting is expected to serve as a platform for dialogue and cooperation among
participating nations to help stabilize the situation in Afghanistan and promote peace and development in the region.
Lavrov emphasized that the upcoming Moscow Format meeting will delve into potential actions neighbouring countries can undertake to address the pressing issues confronting Afghanistan.
One of the paramount concerns voiced by Afghan citizens pertains to the pervasive issues of poverty, restricted access to education, and constraints on the rights and opportunities of girls and women. The recent changes in the Afghan political landscape have exacerbated these challenges. https://www.khaama.com/muttaqi-heads-to-russia-for-moscow-format-meeting/
