Mullah Baradar’s Meeting with Senior Iranian Officials Continues:

The deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, in his visit to Tehran, met with the Interior Minister and the First Vice-President of Iran.

In his meeting with Mohammad Mokhber, the First Vice-President of Iran, Baradar said that the Islamic Emirate wants to expand its political, economic, transit and trade relations with Iran based on its economy-oriented foreign policy.

In a statement, Baradar’s office said that in the meeting, the economic-political interaction, the political situation of the region and the world, and also the recent situation of Muslims in Palestine were discussed.

Based on the statement, the vice president of Iran said that Tehran is ready to significantly increase Afghanistan’s exports and imports from Chabahar port and cooperate fully with Afghanistan in the use of advanced technology in agriculture and industry.

In a separate statement, Baradar’s office said that he met with Ali Akbar Ahmadian, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

The statement said that Ali Akbar Ahmadian emphasized the need for bilateral cooperation and to address the problems of Afghan immigrants in Iran.

In the meeting, political and economic relations, and coordination between the two countries in the fields of water management, transit, and increasing Afghanistan’s exports and imports through Iran were also discussed, Baradar’s office said.

“Our focus was on the issues of trade, investment, Afghan refugees and the security issues along the border,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, Islamic Emirate’s spokesman.

“I hope the high-level delegation of Afghanistan reaches an agreement regarding expansion of investment in Afghanistan. There are good opportunities in the mine and energy sectors,” said Sakhi Ahmad Paiman, deputy head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Industry and Mines.

Baradar in a separate meeting with the Iranian Minister of Interior, Ahmad Wahidi, stated that Iran has always stood with Afghans in dire conditions and it hosted millions of Afghans.

Mullah Baradar urged Wahidi to release and hand over the Afghan nationals who are detained on charges of minor crimes, according to the statement released by his office.

The statement quoted Iran’s interior minister as saying that better opportunities have been laid out for Iran and Afghanistan in economic and trade sectors. He also stressed the formation of a joint committee between the two countries to address the challenges faced by the Afghans.
