DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A militant wanted by the Counter-Terrorism Department was killed during a joint operation conducted by the Tank police and the security forces on the outskirts of the city, police said on Thursday.
A police spokesman said the Tank police and security forces were engaged in a joint operation in the surrounding villages of Tank city, including Karri Haider, Alikhel and Karri Puk, when militants affiliated to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s Shaheen Group attacked the personnel with automatic weapons in Karri Haider area.
The personnel retaliated to the attack, and an exchange of fire followed, the official said, claiming a wanted militant, Idrees alias Nek Mohammad, a resident of Tank, was killed in the indiscriminate firing by his accomplices.
He said the militant was wanted to Counter-Terrorism Department Dera Ismail Khan in four heinous cases.
Meanwhile, the police repulsed an attack on a checkpost within the limits of Dera Town police station.
A police spokesman said militants stormed the Abba Shaheed police checkpost with automatic weapons and hand grenades on Wednesday night.
He said the police personnel retaliated to the attack, forcing the militants to flee.
Meanwhile, Dera regional police officer Nasir Mahmood Satti on Thursday gave away cash prizes to the police personnel, who valiantly repulsed the militant attack on the checkpost.
Accompanied by SP city Ishaq Khan, the RPO visited the affected checkpost and appreciated the bravery of policemen for successfully foiling the attack.
