PESHAWAR: Desperate for some electoral adjustment, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) delegation paid another visit to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) and the two parties decided to work out recommendations for seat-to-seat adjustment at the district level.
Headed by former provincial president of PPP and ex-minister Syed Zahir Ali Shah, the visiting delegation consisted of Shazi Khan and Misbahuddin. Provincial secretary of the JUIF Ataul Haq Darvesh, Secretary Information Abdul Jalil Jan and Syed Miskeen Shah received the PPP team.
The two sides continued the talks initiated by former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari during his recent visit to the provincial metropolis. This was the third meeting between the two parties for some electoral adjustment in a week without reaching a clear agreement.
They, however, pledged to continue the series of talks. Other parties like Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN), Awami National Party (ANP) and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) have also been trying to make electoral alliances or adjustments with the JUIF.
The JUIF leadership has made it clear that they would continue talks for seat-to-seat adjustment across the country especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, the JUIF has ruled out talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which the JUIF Chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman considers as an unnecessary element in the country’s politics.
Meanwhile, the JUIF chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman submitted his nomination papers for elections from his native constituency NA-44 Dera Ismail Khan.
The Maulana has already submitted his nomination papers from NA-265 Pishin, Balochistan and he will contest the general elections on the two National Assembly seats. Also, two women candidates from the JUIF – Ayesha Hameed and Ruqayya Bibi – submitted nomination papers to contest the elections on general seats as per the requirements of the election commission.
