PESHAWAR: Jamaat-i-Islami has announced resuming its anti-government drive from Dec 27 after suspending it last month in the wake of spike in Covid-19 cases across the country.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, JI provincial chief Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan said the party would begin the drive by organising a public meeting in Lakki Marwat on Dec 27.
He said the protest movement and other political activities were suspended to protect people from the deadly virus. He said the Lakki public meeting would be organised at the Qala ground in Serai Nourung, which would also be addressed by party chief Senator Sirajul Haq.
He said the schedule for public meetings in other cities of KP had also been finalized, adding rallies would be held in Mardan, Abbottabad, Upper Dir and Peshawar.
Senator Mushtaq criticised the government and the opposition’s Pakistan Democratic Movement as two faces of the same coin. He held PPP, PML-N and PTI responsible for the current state of affairs the country was in.
Replying to a question, he said the JI parliamentarians would resign if members of the component parties of the PDM quit national and provincial assemblies. He said without amendment in the constitution the Senate elections could not be held through the show of hand.
