Islamic Emirate Leader Given Information Access Law for Review: MoIC

The access to information law, relevant to media groups, has been shared with the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate, Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Ministry of Information and Culture said.

The officials within the ministry said that the challenges facing the media will be solved after approval of the law.

“The law which was sent to the Islamic Emirate’s leader has yet to be approved. But there are hopes that it will be finalised soon,” said Mahajar Farahi, deputy Minister of Information and Culture.

The media-supporting outlets expressed concerns that the journalists are facing severe challenges due to a lack of access to information, and that the law should be finalize as soon as possible.

“The information should be made available to the media on time, so the people can make plans. We want it to be finalized soon,” said Farhad Behroz, deputy head of Afghanistan’s Journalists Association.

“The journalists are facing severe challenges, one of them is access to information,,” said Daud Nazari, a journalist.

“I hope needs of journalists are considered in the law of access to information,” said Mustafa Shaharyar, a journalist.

Meanwhile, Farahi said that efforts are underway to finalize the law of access to information soon.

Also, Islamic Emirate spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid in a consultative meeting with media organizations stressed that the Islamic Emirate supports the media.
