‘IS militant’ held in sanitation worker’s murder case

KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a suspected militant linked with the banned global militant group – Islamic State/Daesh – who was allegedly involved in the targeted killing of a sanitation worker and collecting donations for the outfit, according to CTD SSP Bashir Ahmed Brohi.

Acting on tip off, the CTD’s special team carried out an action in Baloch Colony area and detained the suspect, Sirajul Haq alias Qari.

The held suspect was affiliated with the global IS/Daesh militant group, claimed the officer, adding that he was involved in collecting donations from mosques, shops and area residents to raise funds for the banned group.

On Oct 22, 2022, the suspect along with his associates had shot dead a sanitation worker, Salmon Masih, working at Masjid Gulzar Gul Ahmed near Landhi at around 11pm.

The victim was sitting at a shop near the mosque at the time of the attack, the officer said.

The Quaidabad police had registered the murder case against unknown suspects.

The CTD is interrogating the suspect about the outfit’s network in the metropolis……..
