A senior Iranian diplomat has accused the United States is deliberately fostering instability in Afghanistan to create crises for neighbouring countries.
In an interview with Iran’s state news agency IRNA on Wednesday, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s special representative for Afghanistan, asserted that after the complete withdrawal of US forces.
Since the withdrawal of the foreign forces in 2021, the United States has supported what he called “terrorist” groups in Afghanistan.
Kazemi Qomi added that the United States is furthering efforts to isolate Afghanistan from the international community.
This includes the imposition of sanctions on several Taliban officials and the freezing of the nation’s assets.
The Iranian official emphasized that the United States is not inclined towards achieving stability in Afghanistan, driven by its concerns over the potential for other countries to seize the vacuum that would emerge once the Central Asian country establishes stability.
Since the Taliban’s resurgence to power in Afghanistan, Iran has had close relations with the group and subsequently granted the use of the Afghan embassy in Tehran, signalling the establishment of a closely-knit relationship between the two sides. Despite this, as of the present time, no country has officially recognized the Taliban regime.
However, countries such as Iran, China, and Pakistan have sustained diplomatic channels with the de facto administration.
