International terror groups trying to expand operations in Afghanistan: Stanikzai By KHAAMA PRESS – Thu Apr 07 2016, 5:07 pm

The acting Afghan defense minister Masoom Stanikzai has said that the international terror groups are attempting to expand operations in Afghanistan with the support of the anti-government armed militant groups.

During a meeting with the Afghan lawmakers in parliamentary commissions on defense and internal security, Stanikzai said the Afghan forces will not allow the terror groups to gain and expand foothold in the country.

Stanikzai was accompanied by Chief of the Staff of the Afghan National Army General Qadam Shah Shaheem during the meeting.

He said a full security assessment has been prepared by security institutions and independent directorate of local governance that would be implemented by the security forces for the betterment of security in the country.

According to Stanikzai, the Ministry of Defense has taken steps to improve the capabilities of the Afghan forces during the winter time and 4 battalions in Helmand province consisting of 700 soldiers each have received fresh trainings.

Stanikzai further added that the Ministry of Defense has deployed additional 1000 soldiers in southern Uruzgan province to help improve the security of the province.

This comes as the security officials are predicting the anti-government armed militants will pursue violence in the country during the ongoing year despite the government stepped up efforts to end the violence through reconciliation process. http://www.khaama.com/international-terror-groups-trying-to-expand-operations-in-afghanistan-stanikzai-0578
