Ministry of Defense in a statement said that the security forces have discovered and defused at least eight Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Kandahar Province.

These IEDs were discovered in a series of Afghan National Security Force’s operations.

The IEDs were discovered in the Shorabak and Maiwand districts of the region before they could inflict injuries or result in the deaths of many civilians.

The ministry said the Afghan National Army “lives of tens of civilians were saved as a result”.

Earlier, a special unit of the Afghan National Police (ANP) discovered at least four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in a series of operations across the country, said the Ministry of Interior Affairs in a statement Thursday.

“The engineering teams of ANP following point-to-point search operations managed to discover & defuse four IEDs in Kandahar, Farah & Sar-e-Pul provinces,” MoI tweeted.

Officials did not provide further details, but said “the terrorists had planted the bombs to target the innocent civilians.”
