Rab arrested a top leader of the banned militant outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir from the capital’s Mohammadpur yesterday.
Abdul Baten, 60, was a fugitive accused in four cases, Rab-2 Assistant Director (Media) ASP Shihab Karim confirmed to The Daily Star in the morning.
Three cases were filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and one under the Special Powers Act. Two of the cases were filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, and one each with Hazaribagh Police Station and Manikganj district’s Daulatpur Police Station.
Baten is an active member of dawati and finance department of Hizb-ut-Tahrir. He was engaged in promoting militant books in different parts of the country, including Dhaka, and encouraging the youth to join militancy, the Rab official added.
