Sylhet: Five miscreants desecrated an idol of Bhairabtala Temple at Chalibandar in Sylhet on Wednesday evening, three days after Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the construction work of the temple’s five-storey building.
The miscreants entered the temple around 8:00pm and hearing the temple priest’s shout, people rushed to the spot and captured one of them, said locals.
He was identified as Khalil Ahmed of Chararpar, said Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station. “Locals handed him over to police,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sylhet Puja Udjapan Parishad and Bhairabtala Temple Committee yesterday formed a human chain in front of the temple, demanding that the government should impose strict rules to stop these kinds of activities. http://www.thedailystar.net/city/hindu-temple-desecrated-sylhet-1212604
