High Peace Council’s Samangan chief gunned down; KHAAMA PRESS, Jan 05 2016

Qari Saifuddin Sadat, chief of the High Peace Council (HPC) for northern Samangan province has been gunned down close to his residence in the provincial capital Aibak.

The report has been confirmed by police and governor’s office.

Police Chief General Mohammad Baqir said Sadat was returning home after offering prayers at mosque when unknown gunmen opened fire at him.

Sadat received serious injuries in the attack and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Hospital sources said, Sadat was shot on the chest.

Meanwhile, Sediq Azizi, spokesperson for the governor of Samangan province while confirming the incident told media that Sadat had been working as chief of the High Peace Council from less than a month.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
