Heavy weapons, explosives seized at ‘TTP hideout’ in Manghopir

Karachi :  District West police have seized a huge cache of weapons and explosive material during a raid on a hideout of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the Manghopir area, a senior police officer said  on Monday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pir Mohammed Shah said the raid followed a tip-off that members of the terrorist outfit were present in their hideouts on the outskirts of District West.

A police team led by SP Syed Ali Asif swooped on the hideout of Ahsanullah Mehsud, commander of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban, in Mir Mohammed Goth. However, the suspects had seen the cops approaching and managed to escape from the place, leaving behind a haul of weapons.

The weapons seized were four submachine guns, two .222 rifles, three pistols, 4,000 bullets, 800 bullets of light machinegun, six RPG rocket launchers, eight hand grenades, five Avan rockets.

The law enforcers also found 10 kilograms of nuts and bolts, 40 kilograms of explosive material and chemicals and 20 kilograms of hashish.

SSP Shah said the police had also conducted a search operation in other parts of Manghopir, and apprehended 35 suspects.

The suspects were being questioned about their involvement in criminal and terrorist activities in the city, he added.

The haul of weapons has been seized amid a targeted operation launched on September 5, 2013, against heinous crimes.

Although the law enforcement agencies, led by paramilitary Rangers, have managed to significantly bring down the graph of heinous crimes, including target killings, kidnappings for ransom and extortion, criminals and terrorists continue to carry out their activities every now and then.

Also, street crime is on the rise, with muggers armed with weapons killing citizens without any fear of law.http://www.thenews.com.pk/print/127600-Heavy-weapons-explosives-seized-at-TTP-hideout-in-Manghopir
