Ghani Questions Taliban Insurgency, Blames TTP, Al-Qaeda for Ongoing Conflict by Abid Joenda in Tolo News, Mar 6, 2016 at 18:21 hrs

Addressing the opening of Parliament on Sunday after the winter break, President Ashraf Ghani said the “Taliban is facing a major test – to choose whether they want peace or war.”

Ghani said that Afghanistan has been engaged in an undeclared war with Pakistan, warning foreign militants against conducting terror activities inside Afghanistan territory.

Ghani also said that Afghanistan is the only country where Daesh is on the run and “it will become a grave for them.”

Referring to the ongoing insurgency in Afghanistan, Ghani said that the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), al-Qaeda terror networks affiliates, Daesh and insurgents from central Asian regions were the main roots of conflicts in the country.

“Al-Qaeda constitutes the main element of war while Daesh, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and terror groups which operate in central Asian countries are the other element of war. They (insurgents) want to change Afghanistan into a battlefield, but we will not allow them to achieve their objectives,” he said.

Ghani also questioned Taliban’s insurgency in the country.

“Mosques are undertaking their activities in Afghanistan and schools are operational, then what is the reason for continuation of war, what do they (Taliban) want to contribute for Muslims by continuing the war in the name of Islam,” he said.

He said that the insurgents somehow managed to take control of the war over the past six months, but the Afghan security forces retaliated bravely and thwarted their plans.

“There are some questions that there was a lack of commitment for war, but we are determined to suppress the insurgents and will use all available resources to eliminate them, so rumors must stop,” Ghani added.

Ghani also underscored the will of his government to combat corruption and boost good governance.

“Good governance and war against corruption remains amongst our top working priority next year, reform process has been launched in the judicial sector of the country and will continue,” he said.http://www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/24104-ghani-questions-taliban-insurgency-blames-ttp-al-qaeda-for-ongoing-conflict
