Ghani Meets Tajikistan’s PM, Asks for Re-Opening of Consulates TOLOnews.com, May 11,2016

President Ashraf Ghani met Tajikistan’s Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda on Tuesday afternoon and asked for the re-opening of Tajik Consulates in Kunduz and Badakhshan provinces, the president’s office said in a statement on Wednesday.

Ghani also discussed the issue of visas for Afghan businessmen and residents of Badakhshan province and assured Rasulzada that security forces will provide security for their consulates, according to the statement.

This comes after Tajikistan closed its consulates in Kunduz and Badakhshan province due to security issues months ago.

Ghani also discussed issues faced by Afghans living in Tajikistan, including reports of problems with police, the statement read.

In addition to this, the president asked Rasulzada for the handover of Afghan prisoners to Afghanistan who are reportedly ill.

Rasulzada meanwhile said Ghani’s trip to Tajikistan was important in terms of improving relations between the two countries and he assured his Afghan counterpart that his country will continue to support Afghanistan and help solve issues of Afghans living in his country, the statement added.

Before this, Ghani held meetings with Tajikistan officials and signed several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoU) on economic and regional cooperation.

Ghani, on a two-day trip to Tajikistan, on Tuesday described terrorism as the common threat for regional players and stressed the need for regional cooperation in the fight against this phenomenon.http://www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/25226-ghani-meets-tajikistans-pm-asks-for-re-opening-of-consulates
