Gen. Dostum and Ata Mohammad Noor supporters end tensions in Faryab Khaama Press Mar 27 2016, 2:22 pm

Following days of growing rift among the supporters of two prominent political figures in northern Afghanistan, the tensions have been resolved in the northern Faryab province.

The supporters of Junbish-e-Milli party led by vice president General Abdul Rashid Dostum and Jamiat-e-Islami party led Ata Mohammad Noor reconciled in northern Faryab province shortly after the growing rift led to a bloody encounter last week.

The supporters of the two prominent political parties reinstalled the removed pictures belonging to Gen. Dostum, Ahmad Shah Massoud and Burhnuddin Rabbani in this province.

Faryab governor Syed Anwar Sadat said the reconciliation was achieved following a meeting attended by the representatives of the two prominent political parties in the provincial government office.

The officiasl of the two political parties said they hope to continue standing side by side with each other and support the Afghan security forces in a sensitive moment the country is going.

They also insisted on resolving any issue they may come across the in the future through negotiations and understandings.

The supporters of General Abdul Rashid Dostum and Ata Mohammad Noor engaged in a clash last Thursday in northern Faryab province of Afghanistan, leaving one dead and five others wounded.

This comes as the former Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) Chief Rahmatullah Nabil has warned regarding ongoing attempts to create ethnic divisions among the Afghan people.

Nabil issued an online statement amid intensifying tensions among the supporters of top political figures, General Abdul Rashid Dostum and Ata Mohammad Noor.

The supporters of Gen. Dostum and Ata Mohammad Noor staged mass protests following a rift created over the removal of Gen. Dostum’s pictures from Mazar-e-Sharif city on the occasion of Nowruz celebrations.

Amid fears that the protests would trigger chaos and riots in the north, Noor issued a statement on Monday immediately after the removal of Gen. Dostum’s pictures spark furor among is supporters.

Noor warned regarding any provocative acts in reaction to the removal of the picture and urged the people to refrain from chaos and moves that lead to disorders in the city.
