GB police arrest nine over graffiti glorifying militants

GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan police on Saturday claimed to have arrested nine suspected persons allegedly involved in graffiti praising Islamic State militant group, fighting in Iraq and Syria, and the bannedTehreek-i-TalibanPakistan.

According to an official statement issued by the central police office in Gilgit here, the arrests were made in Diamer, Skardu and Shigar valley.

The statement said that personnel of the Chilas city police station arrested four suspects during a raid. Theywere identified as Mohammad Ragib, Waseer Ahmed, Sherullah and Abdul Haseeb, residents of Diamer district.

The police statement added that FIR had been registered against the arrested persons, and a joint investigation team (JIT) had been formed to probe the case. Similarly, police arrested four suspects identified as Shamsuddin, Awais, Zahid Mir and Mohammad Yasin, residents of Skardu, for allegedly involved the wall chalking in favor of the militant organisations.-
