Federalism is flawed, constitution must be amended’: Upendra Yadav

report in The Himalayan Times, June 26, 2023
Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav has said federalism is flawed itself.”Even though the federal structure has been implemented, it is flawed and the constitution should be amended to execute it correctly,” he said.Stating that there is no other option but to amend the constitution to realise federalism, he said the form of government has been distorted.

Stating that no government could be stable when it is a distorted form of government, Yadav emphasised that the form of government should be changed and an executive presidential system should be promulgated.

Addressing the opening session of the statute session of JSP-N which kicked off today, Yadav stressed that the constitution should be amended to change the current election system and government structure.

“If the constitution is not amended, we will have to fight for a new constitution in the future,” he said, adding, “However, this situation has not come yet but there is a place to amend the constitution. The constitution should be amended to protect democracy and republic system by amending it.”

He further said, “In the status quo, there is no place for people to have any kind of expectation.”He said he would work for the people by staying in the government, formulating policies in the House, adding, “If these two do not work, I won’t hesitate to go to the streets as well.”

Yadav also expressed dissatisfaction with the current budget.”We want this government to complete its tenure successfully.

The government should deliver to the people,” he said, adding, “But the budget disappointed the people. The people are disappointed because the budget has shown no way to speed up the derailed economy.”Yadav claimed that Nepal’s education system was the poorest in Asia.
