Participants at the 26th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization’s Council of Ministers called for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
Speaking at the meeting, the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that “undoubtedly, the establishment of an inclusive government in Afghanistan can not only help the aid programs and reconstruction of the country, but it will also reduce the threats caused by terrorist operations, refugees and drug trafficking for the region.”
The Islamic Emirate in reaction to the meeting said that there is no problem in governance of Afghanistan.
“The subjects relate to internal issues of Afghanistan, the Islamic Emirate takes steps towards it based on the interest of the country and Islamic values in order to solve the problems but we don’t have serious problems in governance,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.
The political analysts believe that Afghanistan’s presence is important at such meetings.
“It is still not late for the Islamic Emirate to use soft and diplomatic language and also flexibility inside Afghanistan,” said Ahmad Khan Andar, a political analyst.
The summit was held on January 24, 2023, in Uzbekistan.
Delegations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkiye, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan (host) as well as the ECO Secretary General participated in the meeting.
