District chief judge shot dead by gunmen in Kabul city By KHAAMA PRESS – Tue Jun 28 2016,

A senior judiciary official was shot dead by unknown gunmen in capital Kabul earlier today, the security officials said.

The assassination of the senior judiciary official in Kabul comes as the Taliban group vowed to target the court officials following the execution of a group of militants by the Afghan government last month.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief Fraidonn Obaidi confirmed that an individual was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the 5th police district of the city.

He said the identity of the slain individal has not been ascertained so far and an investigation is underway regarding the incident.

In the meantime, another security official, said the incident took place this afternoon in Dehwan Begi area of the city.

The official speaking on the condition of anonymity further added that the slain individual was serving as a judge in the appellate court of southeastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

This comes as at least 7 people were killed and over 20 others were wounded after the Taliban militants stormed the provincial judges’ and prosecutors’ compound in Pul-e-Alam earlier this month.

The attack by the Taliban militants followed by the execution of a number of the Taliban, Haqqani network and Al-Qaeda militants by the Afghan government earlier last month.

The Afghan government executed at least 6 militants over the terror offences which followed by a deadly attack on VIP protection unit in Kabul city earlier in April.
