A Dhaka court on Monday placed Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, one of the masterminds of Dhaka terror attack, on a three-day fresh remand in another case filed with Dhanmondi police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury granted the remand prayer after investigation officer Rafiqul Islam, also sub-inspector of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit, produced Rajib before the court seeking on a seven-day remand for interrogation.
Earlier on July 10, another metropolitan magistrate granted seven days remand for Rajib in the case.
According to the case, on November 1, 2016, at least 10 to 12 militants were in a secret meeting in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area when the police conducted a drive and detained two from the spot. The others had manged to flee the area.
After the incident, Sub-inspector Modasser Kawsar of CTTC unit filed a case with the local police station. CTTC unit showed Rajib arrested in the case on February 5.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court on Monday placed Sohel Mahfuz, the “grenade supplier” for the attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka’s Gulshan, on a six-day fresh remand in a case filed over the attack.
Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order after Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit Inspector Humayun Kabir, also investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking an eight-day remand for interrogation.
In his remand prayer, the investigation officer, said the accused had previously given vital information on the Dhaka terror attack and the police need to quiz him again to find out more information on the incident.
After hearing, the court granted a six-day remand for the accused. However, there was no lawyer to represent Sohel Mahfuz, nor did he say anything during the hearing.
On July 09, another metropolitan magistrate had granted seven days police remand for Sohel in the case.
