Daesh, TTP two sides of same coin: CM Report IN daily Times Jan 17, 2016

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that Daesh and Tahreek-e- Talban Pakistan (TTP) are two sides of the same coin. They both are terrorists organisations and considers them humanity and Islam’s enemy.

On the occasion of the 28th passing out parade of Eaglet Course held at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Elite Police Training Centre, the CM said that the terrorists were trying to destabilise the nation. “The people of Pakistan won independence after a long struggle and unforgettable sacrifices, therefore we would prefer to lay our lives instead of allowing terrorists to destabilise our beloved country,” he said.

Replying to a question, the chief minister said that there was no difference in TTP and Daesh as they are both terrorists and have the same intentions with different names to confuse the people. “This is not a question whether Daesh exists in Sindh but the question should be if terrorists exist in the province. The authorities have launched a vigorous operation against them and have received encouraging and commendable results,” he claimed.

Qaim Ali Shah, replying to another question, said that the amendment in the Criminal Prosecution law was made in the light of Apex Committee decisions. “The prosecution has been strengthened and apart from it, the prosecutor would be able to withdraw the allegation if they are without substance but with the consent of the court,” he clarified and added that the hue and cry was being made just to hit the headlines.

The conviction rate of Anti-Terrorist Courts (ATC) courts was not encouraging therefore the bill was passed. “It was not more than 10 percent but after our efforts, the conviction rate of the ATCs improved to 27 percent,” he said.

The chief minister said that the budget of law and order was Rs 14 billion, when he took over, but currently it stood at Rs 60 billion. “This is because the provincial government has not only increased the salaries of policemen but have enhanced the compensation for heirs of martyrs just to inculcate the spirit of confidence and motivation among the policemen and other law enforcing personnel,” he added.

Qaim Ali Shah claimed that his government gave special attention to the capacity building of the police force and added, “We have upgraded our training centres, acquired services of army officers to train policemen and sent policemen to Kharyan for special trainings. “I am thankful to the Army Chief General Raheel Shareef that he extended his full support and cooperation in police trainings and equipped them with the latest gadgets,” he said.

Addressing as the chief guest to the passing out parade ceremony, the Sindh chief minister said that he was satisfied to witness the skills of newly graduated Eaglet Course. “They are capable to fight with terrorists, I am confident that they would protect this country and its people,” he maintained.

He congratulated the Police Inspector General Ghulam Hyder Jamali, DIG Iqbal Dara, Training Centre Commandant Haider Raza and the trainer of the batch for imparting the newly recruited force with the most modern training to combat any terrorist.

ANP leader says militants reorganising

KARAK: Former provincial minister and Awami National Party general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that the fresh acts of terrorism indicated that the militants had re-organised.

Speaking at a news conference here, he added the militants had changed their modus operandi and they were now targeting public places.

Main Iftikhar said that some 70 banned organisations were operating in Punjab and demanded that a targetted operation should be carried out against them.

He maintained that transient peace had been established in the wake of the military operation Zarb-e-Azb as the country was now faced with the threat from the Islamic States (IS).

The nationalist leader said that 40 countries were funding the IS and added that the terrorist organisation was making recruitment in the country.

Mian Hussain said that operations should be carried out in the entire country under the National Action Plan that was devised after the Army Public School attack. He stressed that the concept of good and bad Taliban should be scrapped and across the board action should be carried out against all the militants.
