CTD arrests nine suspects of banned outfits

LAHORE: Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Wednesday claimed to have arrested nine members of banned out-fits during intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in different areas of the province.

According to a CTD spokesman, 157 IBOs were conducted in different areas of the province and 158 suspects were detained and interrogated.

He said that during the IBOs, nine suspects belonging to different banned outfits, including self-styled militant Islamic State (Daesh), Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) and Al-Qaeda were arrested with weapons, explosives and other prohibited materials.

The arrested suspects include Abdul Rauf, Amin Ullah and Waqar Ahmed from Daesh, Hameed Khan,Sarfraz alias Madni,Zia Ullahand Masoodur Rehman from TTP, Shahid Mehmood from SSP and Zubair from Al-Qaeda.

He said the suspected terrorists were arrested during IBOs in Lahore, Faisalabad, Nankana Sahib, Rahim Yar Khan, Sheikhupura and Rawalpindi.

He said explosives material, 12 detonators, mobile phones, and cash were also recovered from the suspects.

The spokesman said that the suspects were planning to target important installations.

The CTD registered eight cases against the suspects and shifted them to an unknown location.

He said that 900 combing operations were also conducted during this week with the help of local police and security agencies, checking 41,411 persons and arresting 134 suspects.https://www.dawn.com/news/1781905/ctd-arrests-nine-suspects
