LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed on Saturday to have arrested eight suspected militants linked with banned outfits during operations in different areas of the province.
According to the spokesman, the CTD conducted 74 intelligence-based operations in different districts of the province to effectively deal with any untoward incident of terrorism, in which 74 suspected people were interrogated and eight alleged militants were arrested with weapons, explosives and other prohibited materials.
The suspects were identified as Liaqat Khan, Muhammad Hasan, Shan Faraz, Gul Karim, Ayub Khan, Muhammad Umeer, Ameer Muawiya and Rizwan Siddiq.
He said the suspects belonged to the banned organisations including Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, Daesh, Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and Al-Qaeda.
He said the arrest of these militants was carried out during intelligence-based operations in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan and Gujranwala.
He said the 1,200 grams explosives, two hand grenades, one IED bomb, nine detonators, 29-foot protective fuse wire, four banned books, one magazine, 21 pamphlets of a banned organisation, 30 stickers, two flags, one receipt book and Rs21,647 in cash were recovered from the militants.
The spokesman said the militants had planned sabotage activities across the province and wanted to target important installations and religious places.
The police have registered seven cases against the arrested militants in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan and Gujranwala and shifted them to an unknown location, he said.
