The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is consistently engaging with the Taliban authorities to improve regional security in response to mounting concerns over extremist forces in Afghanistan.

Yuri, Shuvalov, the representative of the CSTO Secretariat, said that member countries are engaging in talks with the Taliban, hoping for a positive result, quoted by Sputnik News Agency.

Meanwhile, the representative emphasized the importance of maintaining political and military-technical readiness to counter any possible threats from Afghanistan.

“CSTO is closely monitoring the southern borders of Tajikistan to detect any potential threats posed by various extremist groups known to be operating from Afghanistan,” he added.

Simultaneously, Secretary General of CSTO Imangali Tasmagambetov also expressed his concerns on Friday over the increasing risk that terrorist groups from Afghanistan will infiltrate the member countries’ territories.

“There is an increasing risk that terrorist groups and extremist ideas will infiltrate the territories of our CSTO allies. Complex threats coming from Afghanistan are of particular concern,” he said.

In addition, Russia’s updated Foreign Policy concept emphasized the significance of comprehensive settlement, a peaceful and neutral state with a stable economy and an inclusive political system for a peaceful Eurasia.

“Comprehensive settlement in Afghanistan, assistance in building it as a sovereign, peaceful and neutral state with a stable economy and political system, which meets the interests of all the ethnic groups living there and opens up prospects for integrating Afghanistan into the Eurasian space for cooperation,” the documents stressed the requirement of a peaceful and stable Eurasia.

The recent remarks by the various Moscow and CSTO officials indicated their concerns over the current security and political situation in Afghanistan.

However, the de facto government denied any threats emanating from Afghanistan to the neighbouring states. It reiterated that it would not allow any groups to use Afghanistan soil against the neighbouring countries.
