COAS discusses security with PM, President

ISLAMABAD – Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa yesterday separately called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain and discussed with the situation at Line of Control (Loc) and other issues of national security.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, during the meeting with the newly-appointed army chief at the PM House, said his government would extend the required resources to meet the demands of the armed forces.

During his meeting with President Mamnoon Hussain at the President House, the general briefed him on situation on the LoC, operation Zarb-e-Azb and other issues pertaining to national security.

President Mamnoon commended the supreme sacrifices rendered by the country’s armed forces in fight against terrorism and extremism and noted with satisfaction that operation Zarb-e-Azb had greatly curbed militancy and extremism in the country.

He said that work on National Action Plan and operation Zarb-e-Azb should continue until the desired results are achieved.

The president, congratulating General Bajwa on his appointment as army chief, expressed confidence that armed forces would continue to attain glory and supremacy under his sagacious leadership, professionalism and expertise.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa thanked the President for his good wishes. He said armed forces were fully capable of defending the motherland and would meet the nation’s expectations in safeguarding the country’s frontiers by thwarting enemy’ nefarious designs. He also assured that he will fulfill public expectations from the esteemed position he has been honoured with.

Bajwa reaffirms support for CPEC security: Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa yesterday reaffirmed the army’s unwavering support for the security of multi-billion dollars China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The army chief held out the categorical assurance to China’s Commander People Liberation Army, Western Theatre, Gen Zhao Zongqi, who called on him at the GHQ.

According to the ISPR, Gen Zongqi congratulated Gen Bajwa on assumption of command of the Pakistan Army.

During the meeting, matters related to regional security and professional interest came under discussion. Gen Zongqi lauded Pakistan army’s achievements in the fight against terrorism and continued efforts for regional peace and stability.

An arrival at the GHQ, a contingent of Pakistan army presented a guard of honour to the visiting dignitary. The Chinese general laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
