Civil-military leaders agree to work with ‘mutual consultation’ By Special Correspondent in daily times, May 29, 2016

ISLAMABAD: The civil-military leadership on Saturday agreed that the national interest of the country will always remain supreme and that all decisions of national importance will be taken with mutual consultation.

Sources told Daily Times that after a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House, both Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif left for Rawalpindi where they met Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif. The civil and military leaders discussed in detail the current situation in the country, especially the law and order situation and security matters in the backdrop of US drone strike in Balochistan that killed Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour. The top leadership decided that no compromise will be made on the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country, sources said.

They were of the view that Pakistan does not need to be apologetic vis-à-vis its stance on US drone attacks, and agreed that an aggressive policy must be pursued to safeguard the interests of the country, sources said. The meeting believed that the Afghan peace process had been damaged once again by the US drone strike, which may negatively impact the whole region. Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with US both on the diplomatic as well as military levels, and apprehensions in this regard have already been conveyed to Washington through their ambassador in Pakistan.

Interior Minister Ch Nisar briefed the meeting about the steps taken by his ministry regarding re-verification of all the computerized national identity cards, a step reportedly hailed by the military leadership as well.

The situation in Afghanistan after the killing of Mullah Mansour and role of neighboring countries in the present scenario was also discussed and some important decisions were made in this regard, the sources said.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is also reportedly in touch with the military leadership and all the decisions of national importance, especially those about internal security, are being taken with consensus. The meeting expressed satisfaction over results of the combing operations and resolved that war against terrorism and their facilitators will continue with full force.http://dailytimes.com.pk/islamabad/29-May-16/civil-military-leaders-agree-to-work-with-mutual-consultation
