China seeks anti-terror ties with Indonesia after 2 Uyghur terrorists killed Global Times, Mar18,2016

Beijing:  China is willing to work with Indonesia to enhance anti-terrorism cooperation to safeguard the two countries’ and region’s security and stability, China’s foreign ministry said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks in response to recent reports that Indonesian security forces killed two terrorists from China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

“We have noticed the relevant reports and are verifying the situation,” Lu said, noting that China and Indonesia understand and support each other on anti-terrorism issues.

Both countries are terror victims and face more threats from regional and global changes, Lu said.

In recent years, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) have colluded with terrorists and extremist organizations in Indonesia to open the channel of transferring personnel to engage in international terrorism, Lu said, adding that such a move threatens China’s national security and harms Indonesia’s social stability.

The United Nations Security Council considers ETIM a terrorist group.

Indonesian security forces killed two ethnic Uyghur Chinese belonging to a militant network led by the country’s most wanted man, police said Wednesday.

Indonesia has launched an aggressive, military-backed campaign in the jungles of Sulawesi Island as it battles the threat from growing domestic support for the Islamic State militant group, the Reuters reported.

Police said the men had joined Santoso, a militant in Poso, central Sulawesi, who is Indonesia’s most prominent Islamic State backer, and have been on the run for more than three years.http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/974547.shtml
