China, Myanmar consultations focus on maintaining peace and stability in border areas report in South China Morning Post, Nov 26, 2016

Maintaining peace and stability along the border between China and Myanmar was the focus of the first China-Myanmar Diplomacy and Defence “2+2” Consultation on Friday.
The consultation was held after more than 3,000 people fled from Myanmar and were allowed to cross into China’s Yunnan province to seek safety and shelter after fighting between the Myanmese government forces and ethnic minority rebels.
Xinhua said the consultation was co-chaired by officials from the two countries’ foreign ministries and armed forces.

China’s Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin and General Xu Fenlin, deputy chief of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission, represented China, while Myanmar had sent U Kyaw Tin, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Tun Tun Naung, chief of the No 1 Special Operations Bureau of the Tatmadaw (or Myanmar Armed Forces), it added.
Both sides agreed that China and Myanmar were friendly neighbours and the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries had been developing well.
The two sides also agreed that it was in line with the common interests of both countries to maintain peace and stability along the China-Myanmar border, cope with emergencies properly and boost prosperity and development of the border areas.
Both sides attached great importance to the security, rule of law, peace and stability in the two countries’ border areas, and the Chinese side urged the parties concerned to work jointly to strive for the earliest end of the current tense situation in northern Myanmar and restore peace and stability in the China-Myanmar border areas.
