‘Checkposts established along Afghan border in Tirah’: report in Dawn October 20th, 2016

LANDI KOTAL: Security forces have established proper checkposts along Afghan border in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency after successfully clearing the mountainous region of militant groups, officials told Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra here on Wednesday.

In his maiden visit to the region, the government went to the frontline security posts in Sara Waila area bordering Afghanistan in Tirah valley and met army soldiers.

The 27 Brigade commander, Brigadier Rahat Naseem, briefed the governor about security situation in the region.

He said the area had been cleared of militants and that formal checkposts had established along the border.

The governor praised the army for sacrifices during military operations against militants in the rugged and hostile region He said the nation stood by security forces in the fight against terrorism.

The governor also met local tribesmen in Sara Waila area during a jirga.

He also attended the concluding ceremony of a three days sports festival jointly organised by the Frontier Corps, 27-Brigade and 54-Brigade in Peer Maila area of Tirah Valley.

The governor praised tribal people for helping and supporting security forces in ensuring peace and development in the region.

He appreciated the skills and spirit of sportsmen and announced cash prizes of Rs20,000 for winners and Rs10,000 for runners-up.

The governor also announced a cash prize of Rs50,000 for a group of local students for brilliantly signing the national anthem.

He later inaugurated work on a hospital in Bagh Maidan area, a drinking water scheme in Bagh, and a sports stadium and offices for political administration in Peer Melanie area.
