Bomb Attack in Balochistan Kills 2 Police Officers, Injures 2 Others

By Nizamuddin Rezahi in Khaama Press,Feb 26, 2023
Two police officers were killed and two others critically injured when a bomb attached to the police vehicle went off in Khuzdar city of Balochistan on Saturday, according to local sources.

The explosion took place when the vehicle was patrolling the area near Jhalawan Complex, police officials stated.

“Unknown people had placed a magnetic bomb on the police vehicle, and detonated with a remote control, resulting in the death and injury of four security personnel,” Fahad Khosa, Khuzdar’s senior superintendent of police said.

Following the terror attack, security forces launched a search operation in and around Khuzdar town to trace the elements in the bomb attack, and avoid similar incidents.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo has condemned the blast and directed the authorities to take all possible measures to arrest the culprits who have been behind the incident.

No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack so far, however, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have launched several attacks targeting security personnel in the Balochistan province of Pakistan in the past.

Since the outlawed TTP ended its unilateral ceasefire with the Pakistani government in November, the militant group has increased attacks across Pakistan, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in particular in the past months. The militant group has targeted police officers, army personnel, and Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) officials.

The threats of terrorism and militancy have unprecedentedly increased in Pakistan since the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan. Many Pakistani political experts believe that TTP has hideouts in Afghanistan, and plans attacks on Pakistan from Afghan soil.

The recent visit of the Pakistan delegation to Kabul headed by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif was to discuss security concerns with the Afghan Taliban authorities and take decisive actions to fight against terrorism in the tribal areas between the two countries. https://www.khaama.com/bomb-attack-in-balochistan-kills-2-police-officers-injures-2-others/

A suicide bombing occurred on Friday outside a bank branch in Faizabad city, the provincial capital of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan Province.

According to Muezuddin Ahmadi, the provincial director of the Taliban’s Media and Culture Department, the suicide bomber was shot down before he could reach the crowd assembled at the bank. Ahmadi continued, “No one was significantly hurt except for the attacker.

There was not immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, said officials.

A day before the incident, an explosion was reported in the Taloqan capital city, Takhar province, resulting in at least four people being killed and several others being injured.
Earlier this week, a high-ranking delegation led by Khawaja Asif, the defense minister of Pakistan, visited Kabul to discuss security and TTP and ISKP militants.

In the meeting, the two sides agreed to collaborate to effectively address the threat of terrorism posed by various terror organizations.

Meanwhile, the de facto government in Afghanistan has increased their operations against IS-K and other militants.
In recent incidents, the Kashmiri leader, related to the IS-K known as Abu Osman, was killed in the Kunar province of Afghanistan in operation by the current government.

Since the return of the Taliban to power in the country, security has remained a significant challenge for the Taliban government amid a severe humanitarian crisis.
