On Thursday, Mukesh Chaurasiya, a 42-year-old man from Bindabasini Rural Municipality, was killed in a clash that took place in an oath-taking ceremony of Nepal Communist Party Bindabasini Rural Municipality Committee in Parsa district.
Chaurasiya, who sustained serious injuries on his head, died while undergoing treatment at Birgunj based-LS Neuro Hospital on Friday morning.
The clash ensued when a group of individuals staged a protest at Parsauni Bhata in Ward No. 5 of Bindabasini Rural Municipality, citing that they were left out during the oath ceremony of the committee.
Eight people sustained injuries in the clash that took place between the protesters and the attendees of the programme.
The remains of Chaurasiya, who was a district member of NCP and also a secretary of NCP Bindabasini Rural Municipality Committee, is in Narayani Hospital for the last six days, as the District Police Office in Parsa did not register an FIR against those involved in his killing.
In the last five days, the supporters of the NCP along with NCP in-charge, secretary, rural municipal chairman and other local leaders have also organised a sit-in in front of the District Police Office on a daily basis. On Wednesday, the NCP Bindabasini Rural Municipality Committee had also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office in Kathmandu through the Chief District Officer. The memorandum has asked the Prime Minister’s Office to take action against the perpetrators and ensure the victim’s right for justice.
On Thursday, the police had taken NCP leader Raj Kumar Gupta and seven others under control for inquiries regarding the incident. A team of police personnel from the District Police Office had also reached Gupta’s residence in Ward No. 11 of Birgunj Metropolis after they got to know that some of the protesters who were involved in the clash had hidden in his house.
Gupta was released at 9pm on Thursday. But two other individuals who were taken under control from Gupta’s house the same day are still in police custody. Two injured protesters, who were undergoing treatment in National Medical College, have fled from the hospital. Both of them are still at large.
On Friday, the family of the deceased had reached the District Police Office in Parsa to register an FIR against 12 individuals. According to the family, the police have been demanding that they remove the name of Gupta from the list.
According to sources, police had released Gupta after receiving a telephone call at 9pm from the higher level.
Nepal Communist Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday also issued a statement and demanded that the government take action against the guilty.
On Saturday, Bishwo Prakash Sharma, spokesperson of Nepali Congress, also demanded authorities to take action against the guilty. “We draw the attention of both the Prime Minister and NCP Chairman to this matter,” he said.
Meanwhile, Manojit Kunwar, deputy superintendent of police at the District Police Office in Parsa, said they could not receive the complaint, as the victim’s family came with the names of those individuals who were not involved in the incident.
“We will know more about the incident after the investigation,” Kunwar said.
According to DSP Kunwar, they have started investigation after arresting three individuals from the incident site.
However, the district-based NCP leaders claim that the clash was preplanned by NCP leader Gupta. Chhotelal Yadav, a local leader of the NCP, said, “It’s a case of political bias. Two of the arrested individuals were taken from Gupta’s house. This clearly shows that he is the mastermind behind the incident.”
