BNP to launch one-point demand to oust govt on Wednesday

report in Prothom Alo, Jul 10, 2023
Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) would make an announcement of one-point demand to oust the government from a rally in front of the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters in Dhaka on Wednesday (12 July).

The party has sought a permission from the police to hold the rally.

Different alliances and parties that are also waging simultaneous movement with the de facto opposition will also make the announcement of the one-point demand holding rallies at different points in the capital city.

Several central leaders of the BNP and their like-minded parties disclosed this to Prothom Alo.

BNP’s Dhaka city (north) unit convener Amanullah Aman also spoke about this at its organisational joint meeting at Bhashani auditorium at Naya Paltan on Sunday afternoon.

An announcement will be made on 12 July about new phase of the ongoing movement, said Amanullah Aman.

Addressing the party leaders and activists, he said, “You all will have to join at 12 July rally breaking all the past records of presence of people; you will have to stay from the beginning to the end. Party’s acting vice chairman Tarique Rahman will make an announcement about the new phase of the movement.”

BNP central leaders said they would announce about new programmes alongside the one-point demand of unseating the government from the rally as well. They have started preparations for the rally.

BNP and several like-minded parties and alliances have been waging movement simultaneously to press home a 10-point demand including demanding resignation of the government and the forthcoming parliamentary election to be held under non-party caretaker government. The party leaders were talking about waging the one-point movement for long.

The party leaders said the there is just six months to go before the next (12th) parliamentary election. They are going to make an announcement regarding the one-point demand to take the movement at the final stage.

‘Won’t retun without realising one-point demand’

Amanullah Aman, also an adviser to the BNP chairperson, said the government is trying to stage another parliamentary election like that of 2014 and 2018. No such election will be held in this country. People will not allow anything like that.

Claiming that general people alongside the party leaders and activists have taken to the streets to press home the demand of overthrowing the government, he said, “We will not return home before making the movement that would begin from 12 July a success and realising the neutral caretaker government.”

Dhaka city north BNP member secretary Aminul Haque called on the party men to join the 12 July rally with all types of preparation.

He said, “You will suffer for seven days and would remain better in the coming days. Take that preparation. We will unseat the government through a peaceful programme. You have suffered a lot for the last 15 years. Now is the time to harvest. You must join the rally at Nightingale Mor with all the units.” https://en.prothomalo.com/bangladesh/politics/w9v0ugi392
