B’desh:Newspaper owners for scrapping Section 57

Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (Noab) has urged the government to remove the Section 57 from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act and withdraw all cases filed under the law against journalists.
The call was made in a meeting of the newspaper owners’ platform at the office of Bangla daily Prothom Alo in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka on Saturday, says a press release.
Terming the Section 57 an attack not only on the freedom of expression but also on the newspaper industry, Noab leaders urged the government not to adopt any such law having such a section.
Expressing concern over the drafts of the Digital Security Act and the National Online Mass Media Guideline which contain sections similar to the controversial Section 57, the organisation asked the government not to take any step that may hamper the freedom of expression in the country.http://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/2017/07/24/newspaper-owners-scrapping-section-57/
